About Us

Born from a moment I never want another family to experience.

My name is Betsy, and I started The Lessons & The Laughter because of a day I will never forget, the day I realised I could no longer remember my father's voice.

"I sat there and I couldn't hear him anymore. The way he said my name. The way he told a story. The laugh that filled the room. It was gone, and I hadn't thought to hold onto it."

My father passed away when I was young. In the years that followed, I found myself reaching for memories that were slowly fading. I never got to ask him how he wanted to be remembered. I never captured the stories he would have wanted to pass on to his grandchildren, grandchildren he never got to meet.

That grief has never left me.

The Lessons & The Laughter was created so that no family has to sit with that silence. So that grandchildren can one day hear their grandmother's laugh exactly as it was. So that the wisdom, the warmth, and the wonderful ordinariness of a life well lived, is never lost.

Every session we guide is personal to me. Because I know what it means to wish you'd done this sooner and I know the extraordinary gift it is to be able to do it at all.
